Information about Ramanagara District

Ramanagara District, the 28th district of Karnataka has 4 taluks under it. They are Ramanagara, Channapatna, Kanakapura and Magadi. The total area of the new district is 3555 sq.kms. The total population is about 10.31 lakhs.


Tourist Centers:

Ramanagara: This place is known for its silk production. Has Asia’s largest cocoon market. Ramanagara is surrounded by 7 major hills with stunning natural beauty. Among them Sri Ramadevara Hills & Sri Revanasiddeshwara Hills are treated as pilgrim centers. Janapada Lokha an excellent folk museum is a must see place. The Government Pottery Centre is also a place to visit.

Channapatna: Known throughout the country for production of toys and wooden articles. The crawling infant Lord Krishna in Malur near here is an unique and rare temple. Kanva Reservoir has beautiful and natural landscape. The Hanuman Temple in Kengal is also the birth place of Kengal Hanumanthaiah who is said to be the brain behind the consturction of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.

Kanakapura: The old name of this place is Kanakanahalli. The river Arkavathy joins river Cauvery to continue its journey. The place where the two rivers meet is appropriately called as Sangama. Many people take dip in the place where the two rivers meet as they belive it as sacred.

Magadi: Sri. Kempegowda the founder of Bengaluru the capital city of Karnataka hailed from this place and hence he is also called as Magadi Kempegowda. The famous temple of Ranganatha Swamy , Manchanabele Reservoir and Savanadurga Hills are the other places of tourist importance in this taluk.

Ramanagara and Channapatna are situated on Bangalore – Mysore highway. State Road Transport Buses ply aplenty. Magadi and Kanakapura are also well connected with Road transport. All these places are just 50 to 60 kms from Bangalore.

Karnataka State in India now has 29 districts. The Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri H.D.Kumara Swamy today inaugurated Ramanagara District as the 28th and Chikkaballapur as 29th District of Karnataka.

Ramanagara District from 23rd of August 2007

A new district is being carved out of Bangalore Rural District in Karnataka on 23rd of August 2007. The new district is named as RAMANAGARA DISTRICT. It comprises of Ramanagara, Channapatna, Kanakapura and Magadi Taluks. Ramanagara City will be the head quarters of the new district. Ramanagara is situated on Bangalore Mysore Highway & its just 50 k.m. away from Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka. This t0wn is known for its silk production throughout India.
