The Ramanagara District Administration which had declared 2 safe zones for stone crushing (jalli kallu) few months ago has created one more safe zone now. The first zone was at Kanakapura Taluk, the second at Magadi Taluk. Now the 3rd zone is identified in Ramanagaram Taluk. The Supreme Court had asked the Governments to create safer zone in each district for stone crushing units and to install measures to contain environment pollution. But the district administrations latest move clearly shows it is succumbing to the pressure from stone crushing lobby, as it is forcing to declare all the locations in the district of stone crushing units as safer zones!At least now the district administration should not create any more safe zones. Now it is the time for the District Commissioner to put pressure on the crusher owners to adopt pollution control measures.
