Sri Rama Chariot Festival



On eve of auspicious Sri Rama Navami Festival, the Chariot Festival of the leading deity of Ramanagaram Town Sri Rama was successfully conducted on 13th April 2011, with all grandeur. The 50 ft tall chariot with idols of Sri Rama, Seetha Devi, Lakshmana and Hanumantha was pulled by devotees on the Agrahara Main Road, M.G.Road, Main Road and Choultry Street.

Thousands of devotees across the district had a glimpse of Lord Sri Rama and offered bananas and “javana” (a kind of leaves) to the lord as devotion. Many individuals and service oriented groups organized “aravantike” across main roads and distributed Butter Milk, Lemon Juice sweetened with Jaggery along with “Kosambari” (mixture of cucumber, moong dal, coconut grating, coriander and chillies) that quenched the thirst and hunger of devotees. Sri Arkeshwara Swamy Chariot Festival


Ramanagaram on 30th January 2010 witnessed the spectacular chariot festival. The diety Sri Arkeshwara Swamy temple on the banks of river Arkavathy has its place in the history of Ramanagaram. Every year the chariot festival is conducted with much devotion and fervour. This year too the chariot festival was more successful than yesteryears. People from all walks of life and from surrounding taluks participated in the festival and offered their prayers to Lord Arkeshwara.
Many organisations had putup make shift stalls and offered neerumajjige (buttermilk), panaka(musk melon/lemon juice sweetned with jaggery) that quenched the thirst of hundreds of devotees. Lord Arkeshwara Swamy idol mounted on 30 feet tall (approx) chariot pulled by the devotees from the temple premises on Choultry Street made its journey thru Agrahara, M.G.Road, Main Road and again thru Choultry Street to reach the temple finally.

Sri Rama Chariot Festival at Ramanagaram

It was jatre (fair) day at Ramanagaram on 4th April 2009.

The Sri Rama Brahma Ratotsava took place with grandeur and gaiety. The 50 feet long Chariot with Sri Rama idol along with his consort Seetha, Lakshmana and Hanumantha moved precariously on the narrow streets of Ramanagaram.

Thousands of devotees across the district had darshan of Lord Rama and seeked his blessings.

All along the chariot route many associations, individuals arranged ‘aravatige’ (a shed on road side in which water, butter-milk are distributed gratis).
